Sam & the Samhain Scare
Book 17 of #31BooksforHalloween!
Today’s book is ‘Sam and the Samhain Scare’ by Kathleen Converse and Hanna Sultanova from Moon Dust Press.
In this sweet story, told in rhyming verse, we join Sam and his friends as they celebrate Samhain and learn not to be afraid of ancestors and loved ones who visit from the other side of the veil. They will honor the day with traditions such as fire scrying and a celebratory feast.
Reading about the special days that their own family celebrates is wonderful for children already familiar with Samhain, and it is also a fun learning opportunity for children and families who are new to the practice or even just curious about others’ cultures and holidays..
The illustrations are a wonderful balance between welcomingly colorful and honoring of the more somber aspects of Samhain.
This book is part of Kathleen Converse’s Wheel of the Year series.
I am definitely getting the rest of the books in this series!
