Grimoire Girl by Hilarie Burton Morgan

Day 13 of #31BooksforHalloween!

Grimoire Girl by Hilarie Burton Morgan

Friday the 13th – of course it is not any more scary nor powerful than any other Friday, but with what pop culture has encouraged it to become, it definitely deserves an UNEXPECTEDLY witchy book selection today.

Hilarie Burton Morgan is a witch… and one heck of a storyteller. Most folks know her from some of her other amazing talents, such as being an actress on the hit show One Tree Hill, and numerous other programs and movies.

Hilarie’s first book Rural Diaries is amazing in ways that I will discuss another time, and it certainly made me eager for her recent release – Grimoire Girl.

As soon as we saw the announcement for her book signing event here in Los Angeles, my daughter and I immediately agreed that we MUST attend. We purchased tickets and were looking forward to meeting Hilarie and procuring a signed copy of her book….and then signed copies arrived in the mail! Nothing beats the wonderful surprise of pre-ordered books arriving. Truly a wonderful gift. I started reading it immediately and knowing Hilarie’s vocal cadence from seeing her on TV, I could almost hear her reading every word. And then I DID. I was unexpectedly able to listen to the audiobook of Grimoire Girl and was thrilled that Hilarie herself narrates it! I am NOT an audible ‘reader’; I am visual and a bibliophile, needing the physical book in my hands. Even Kindles don’t appeal to me. As luck would have it I had a long drive the next day and decided to give the audiobook a try. Not even one chapter in and I. Was. Hooked! Hilarie is a master storyteller, bringing every scene and experience to life, full sensory, with surround sound!

Now that I have been through this book more than once, I can tell you, it is pure magic.

Personally having been a ‘professional’ witch and book reviewer for over twenty years, I have read and studied a vast amount of mystical texts, as well as quite a bit of magically oriented fiction. Needless to say, while reading Grimoire Girl, I had a lot to compare it to. Fact is, I found it to be incomparable. If someone were to ask me today, as they have numerous times over the years, to recommend a witchy book to get them in step with magic – with their OWN magic – Grimoire Girl would be my recommendation. No hesitation, no weighing options, just unequivocally THIS BOOK.

Why? Because in addition to a plethora of well researched magical data that is practical and easy to absorb and incorporate into one’s life immediately, there is the tenor of the book, the energy of the author, her authenticity and vibrancy and true love of magic. Even in seemingly ‘mundane’ life stories that she shares, you can hear how she receives and processes all of life, through the lens of magic. That it exists – in the world, in the flow of life, in herself. It is nearly palatable. No other book, no matter its academic depth, or otherworldly teachings, conveys the love and living of magic as warmly and invitingly, as Grimoire Girl does. And the Simple Spells - are absolute perfection!

I have more to say about this book, its extraordinary author, and my thoughts as I both read it and listened to it, but those I will wait to share until later this coming week. Now I am looking forward to meeting Hilarie Burton Morgan more than ever.
